  1. Stanisław Kamykowski

Abstract

THE ‘CIVILIZING’ OF FANS AND THE ORDER’S (RE)CONSTRUCTION

The author analyzes the concept of ‘civilizing’ with reference to the football fans in Poland. He uses the description of events of the early years of the second decade of the twenty-first century to show the usefulness of the sport fans as a community for the Invisible Religion (Łukasz Wrzesiński, Dominik Antonowicz), Anti-Development Interest Groups (Andrzej Zybertowicz) and theory of civilizing (Norbert Elias) concepts. The author concludes that, contrary to popular belief and despite the fans’ destructive behavior deteriorating social order, they play a special role of the guardians of specific order in the platforms, and what is more — also outside the stadium.
